Almost immediately after inviting its first group of students, the chapter began volunteering at a nursing home with a community service organization called Setting the Standard. Society members volunteered their time on five Saturdays spanning the Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 semesters. The 20-plus student volunteers spent time with approximately 20 members of the home, playing Wii Bowling, making puzzles, playing the piano, making ice cream and root beer floats, and sharing conversation.

The chapter is also an active fundraiser on campus. Members held a Fundraiser Night at Moe’s Southwest Grill last fall, earning 7% of each sale when the customer mentioned the Society to the cashier. There was also an event called “It’s A Bust,” where participants donated $1 to pop a balloon, revealing a number inside. That number represented the number of raffle tickets the popper had earned. The tickets were entered into a drawing for gift cards.

Other fundraisers completed by the Memphis chapter included the Sweet Tasting Fundraiser, featuring prizes and delicious desserts, a BBQ Fundraiser, and numerous Chik-Fil-A Spirit Nights.

Memphis also hosted its first two semesters worth of Speaker Broadcasts. More than 65 people attended each of the broadcasts pictured: David Garibaldi, Stephen Bardo, and Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn.
