Did you succeed in achieving your action steps since the last meeting? If yes, please state which action steps you were able to complete. If no, please explain the challenges that you experienced. (If first meeting, write ‘first meeting’ here.):
First Meeting
Please state your goal using the SMART Method: Specific: Avoid generalities! Your goal should have specific details so you know what you are achieving. Measurable: Make sure you have solid criteria for establishing your progress toward your goal. Actionable: You can clearly define action steps towards your goal Rewarding: Your goal must be something that is meaningful and worthwhile. Time Specific: Having specific dates for beginning and finishing goals keeps you on track. Example: “My goal is to receive a Sports Internship by May 1st”:
Specific My goal is to be consistently productive in my learning each day. Measurable: I will complete at least one assignment, one required textbook reading, or one outside reading each day. Outside reading can be things like self improvement books, books related to my majors and career interests, or related to Scripture. Actionable: This is explained above-complete at least one from a category above. Rewarding: This will not only help me to stay on top of my assignments, it will also help me to better set aside time to study, be motivated to complete required readings for class, and to simply grow my knowledge in my interests and my self growth. Time Specific: For the class related categories, this will end when school ends. When that time comes, I will still read from or about Scripture and items about my majors and career possibilities.
Please list the action steps you will take to achieve your goals stated above. These are action steps that will be completed by next meeting. Example: “1. Finish my resume. 2. Talk with my advisor. 3. Submit a sports internship application at two institutions.”:
1. I will make a daily plan to ensure that I am setting aside time to work toward the goal. 2. I will print out a monthly summary of assignments and readings so that I make sure I am staying up to pace with classes and to be able to check things off the list. 3. During the time set aside, I will have my phone put away in another room to minimize distraction and excessive phone usage.
How have the NSLS speakers or SNT meetings helped you achieve your goals or changed your life?:
The SNT meetings helped change my life goal because it introduced me to the SMART method. This is something that I have never heard of before so this made it much easier to break down the goal to make it feel more achievable once I discovered a goal. Because I have this new method of creating and organizing goals, I feel that it will be easier to not only create them but also achieve them. Goal setting and writing is something that has been somewhat difficult for me because it felt like such a daunting task. I felt like life goals had to be something that would happen five to ten years in the future and they felt really unattainable. I felt like I wasn't making progress toward them in the day to day because they felt so far away. I really liked learning the SMART method and I plan to implement this in other areas of my life as well.
