Dear Society Members,
February is upon us. At only 28 days long it’s the shortest month of the year, but there’s a lot going and much to accomplish during it. When there’s little time and there’s plenty of work, prioritizing is the key to success.
The word 'February' comes from the ancient Roman festival of purification called Februa. It’s a nice tidbit to know, but it’s also a good opportunity to introspect and do some “house cleaning.” We just passed Groundhog Day on February 2nd, which is also one of my favorite comedies. In it, Bill Murray is stuck in a time loop, reliving the same day again and again, until he finally changes his ways from a selfish to a caring man. It’s a funny yet poignant way to remind us that as we embark on our lifelong journey to success we all have lessons to learn and tasks to perform, and when we don’t we’re fated to repeat them until we do.
But we don’t have to learn life lessons from our own triumphs and failures alone; we can find inspiration and a guiding hand in the success of others. This is why the Society brings you various leaders in their field via our Speaker Broadcasts, to share with you their own experiences and wisdom. This month we welcome two great guest speakers: on February 10th we will host ABC News’ award-winning correspondent Dan Harris, and on February 24th we’ll host Debbi Fields, founder of Mrs. Fields Cookies.
So don’t slow down, don’t lose sight of your goals, and don’t forget to rely on your friends and mentors at the Society to help you succeed. It’s what we’re here for; helping you achieve your goals and become a leader who makes a better world.

MEET BETTER WORLD GRANT WINNER JAMES PAGE
I am a nature-loving college senior who enjoys live music, campfires, skydiving, organic living, positive thinking, and solving Rubik’s Cubes. I can’t resist reading a good self-help book like The Power of Now. When I am relaxing at home, I enjoy spending time with my girlfriend and playing with my 70-pound Poodle. I currently work as an SAT tutor for Kaplan, and I also doggy-sit for Sleepover Rover. I set out in 2014 to get more involved- and that goal has led me here.

MEET DREAM SUPPORT GRANT WINNER LINA SUAREZ
I was born in Medellin, Colombia. I have been in Unites States for twelve years. I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and went to Houston Community College, from which I transferred to Texas Woman’s University in Denton. I’m currently a junior at TWU, pursuing my career in Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising with a minor in Marketing. This is my second semester in the Society.

MEET SOCIETY ADVISOR AND ADVISORY LEADERSHIP PROGRAM GRANT WINNER EVELYN ORTEGA
I am a Dominican woman who was the first female in my family to attend college. I received my Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and minor in Business Administration from Boston University. I received my M.S.Ed from Kaplan University. While I was working on my Master’s I chose to do both my practicums at The City College of New York. They turned into a part-time position which then led me to take over as the Program Coordinator, to now being the Assistant Director for the Office of Student Life and Leadership Development. As the Assistant Director I oversee leadership development programs, diversity programming, community service, school spirit events, and Freshman Orientation.

The Society Chapter at PSU – Erie co-sponsored a Human vs. Zombies event; a gigantic game across campus of Nurf tab, where students had to shoot down brain-ravenous undead before they got infected and turned into chasers themselves. And the catch— going to the Society’s leadership activity earned them more ammo!
SOCIETY MEMBER DEVIN PRICE SELECTED TO PRESENT AT PRESTIGIOUS WESLEY COLLEGE GALA
Wesley College Society chapter member Devin Price was one of 13 students selected to share their accomplishments and future plans at the Wesley Society Gala on Jan. 10. The gala is a special event that recognizes the college’s most generous donors while also highlighting the accomplishments of some extraordinary students.
Devin is a biology major, and in addition to the Society she is also a member of the Wesley College field hockey team. We are so proud of Devin’s hard work, accomplishments, and recognition!

SOCIETY MEMBER JENNA FURGER RECEIVES THE CHANCELLOR’S LEADERSHIP AWARD AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-STEVENS POINT
Jenna Furger, Society Chapter President of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Chapter, was one of 32 honorees who received the school’s 2014 Chancellor’s Leadership Award. The award honors graduates who contribute significant leadership, demonstrate university or community service and display a commitment to personal growth.

I’ve been working in the field of student leadership development for over a decade now, seven of which I’ve been with the Society. I’m the Senior Student Program Director, which means that I’m responsible for overseeing the team of Student Program Directors that support students who bring the Society to their campus.
